Emma Kruger, Trustee

Emma is the co-founder of Only Connect. After graduating in 1996 from Manchester University with a degree in drama and English, she worked for 8 years as a teacher in mainstream secondary schools, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulty (EBD) Units and Pupil Referral Units (PRUs). In 2004-05 she was the London director of the BBC RaW (Reading and Writing) programme, delivering literacy projects with a wide range of community groups. Since university Emma had volunteered and worked part time in prisons, leading drama workshops with offenders. With Danny Kruger she started Only Connect in 2005 to deliver arts-based rehabilitation in prisons and with ex-offenders in the community. Until 2017 she worked full-time for the charity, mostly in prisons and also leading crime prevention projects in schools across London. She is now a trustee of the charity.

Simon Pellew.jpg

simon pellew, CEO

Simon’s first venture into leading charities was setting up Pecan, working on the large housing estates in North Peckham.  At the time, these estates were notorious and had extremely high unemployment.  Thanks to Pecan’s work this was brought down to close to the London average.  He was awarded an OBE for this.

He then moved into the criminal justice world, first providing accommodation for men coming out of prison, and then working to strengthen relationships of prisoners and their partners (or, for young people, their parents).  With experience in both the key fields of employment and relationships, he hopes to lead Only Connect in helping more people desist from crime.

chris wright, trustee

Chris Wright is Chief Executive of Catch22, the social business driving public service reform. He leads the team of 1,800 staff and volunteers that last year supported 46,000 nationally.

With 30 years’ experience across the social care and criminal justice systems, his background spans practice (Chris originally trained as a social worker and probation officer, establishing Nottingham’s first multi-agency Youth Offending Team) and policy (as Head of Performance at the Youth Justice Board).

Chris has long advocated the need for radical reform of a wide range of public services. Under his leadership, Catch22 has not only delivered significant frontline impact, but has grown its work supporting others to transform their services; from advising government behind closed doors through to supporting and investing in big ideas and small delivery charities.
